From Idea to First Dollar: Ember & Edge Co. and the Business Readiness Program
What does it actually look like to go from an idea to a revenue-generating business in eight weeks?
It looks like Ember & Edge Co.
Ember & Edge is one of the founders in Cohort 1 of the Business Readiness Program, an eight-week business incubator in Rock County, Wisconsin designed to help early-stage entrepreneurs move from concept to execution.
On March 26, 2026, this founder will take the stage at Pitch Night to present the business they have built inside the program.
But before the pitch, here is the story behind the business.
Founder Story – Ember & Edge Co.
Ember & Edge Co. started with a simple idea: create meaningful, lasting pieces that people actually connect with.
In a world where so many products are mass-produced and forgettable, I wanted to build something different—something personal. Something that people keep on their desk, in their home, or give as a gift because it actually means something to them.
That idea turned into Ember & Edge Co., a small Wisconsin-based laser engraving business focused on personalized gifts, custom décor, and branded items for businesses.
The name “Ember & Edge” reflects the craft itself. The ember represents the fire and creativity behind every piece, while the edge represents the precision of the laser and the attention to detail that goes into every design.
This business exists because I believe people value authenticity and craftsmanship more than ever. When someone buys a product today, they don’t just want an object—they want a story behind it. They want to know who made it, why it was made, and that care actually went into it.
That’s exactly what Ember & Edge is about.
Every item is designed and engraved in-house using laser technology that permanently etches artwork, logos, names, coordinates, and meaningful messages into materials like slate, wood, glass, and metal. The goal is to create products that feel intentional and unique, whether it’s a set of engraved slate coasters, a custom sign, or a piece of décor celebrating a meaningful place or memory.
Ember & Edge serves two main groups.
The first is individuals looking for personalized gifts and home décor—people who want something more meaningful than what you find in a big-box store. These customers are often celebrating life moments like new homes, weddings, anniversaries, or special memories tied to a place or event.
The second group is businesses looking for branded items that actually feel premium. Hotels, restaurants, golf clubs, and local organizations often want items like engraved coasters, whiskey glasses, or custom merchandise that represent their brand in a memorable way.
Instead of ordering generic products from large vendors, they can work directly with a local maker who focuses on quality, consistency, and clean engraving.
The problem Ember & Edge solves is simple: most personalized products today are either cheaply made or mass-produced with little attention to detail.
Laser engraving allows for something different. The designs are permanent, precise, and durable—meaning the finished product doesn’t fade, peel, or wear off the way printed designs often do.
That permanence matters.
Whether it’s a set of coasters for a home bar, a custom piece celebrating someone’s first home, or branded merchandise for a business, the goal is to create something that feels like it was made specifically for the person receiving it.
Right now, Ember & Edge is focused on building a strong foundation through online sales and local partnerships. Custom slate coasters have quickly become a standout product because they’re practical, giftable, and perfect for both personal and business use.
But that’s only the beginning.
The long-term vision is to expand the product line into layered wood art, larger décor pieces, and custom branded merchandise for regional businesses. At the same time, the online store will continue to grow so customers across the country can access personalized products made with the same care and attention as those produced locally.
At its core, Ember & Edge Co. is about craftsmanship, creativity, and connection.
It’s about taking a simple material and turning it into something that tells a story.
